Municipalities within Sturgeon County (Morinville, Redwater, Legal, Bon Accord, Gibbons, and Sturgeon County) formed the Sturgeon Regional Partnership in 2009 to explore opportunities for these communities to work together.  The need for a Regional Recreation Master Plan was identified as one opportunity that would contribute to essential long term planning to examine the delivery of recreation programs and services across the region and the capital infrastructure requirements associated with these services over the next 25 years.

The Regional Recreation Facility Master Plan’s vision recognizes recreation as an essential municipal service that must be sustainable, accessible to all and includes opportunities for families to recreate together.  The vision also recognizes that businesses investing in new locations often consider the availability of recreational facilities for employees and their families as a criterion in decision-making processes.  The Master Plan was based on input from municipal residents and stakeholders through open houses, and surveys.
