On November 10, 2015, Mr. Wayne Gatza was recognized for his hard work, dedication and vision that he brought to Morinville through Kraft Hockeyville. Morinville was one of the top 10 in Canada winning $25,000 for rink improvements. Dressing room lockers were purchased earlier in the year, and a rink divider and hot dog machine were recently purchased. These items will be transferred to the new arena upon completion.

On April 14, 2015, Champion Petfoods was recognized for receiving the Alberta Chamber of Commerce Premier's Award of Distinction from Alberta Chambers of Commerce Alberta Business Awards of Distinction. Frank Budzy, CEO, was presented with the recognition by Mayor and Council. The Premier's Award of Distinction is presented to the organization that best exhibits overall outstanding achievement and leadership in Alberta, and demonstrates ongoing and consistent involvement in community events and organizations locally and/or provincially.

2014 St. Albert Cardinals PeeWee AAA Tier Gold Medalists

Kade Knight and Liam Froment of Morinville are teammates on the St. Albert Cardinals PeeWee AAA Tier 1 baseball team. The team won Provincials and then travelled to Ontario for Nationals placing 4th. Kade Knight was in attendance to accept the recognition.

Alberta Summer Games Participants

Young residents of Morinville attended the 2014 Alberta Summer Games held in Airdrie in July 2014. Council recognized these individuals for their hard work and determination in their respective sporting categories. The following individuals were recognized:

David LeBel Courageous Efforts

Council recognized Mr. LeBel for his courageous efforts during the floods in Southern Alberta last summer (2013). It was noted that Mr. LeBel also received a "Hero of the Flood" award from the Government of Alberta.

Retirement of Fire Chief Ron Cust

Council recognized Fire Chief Ron Cust on 36 years with the Morinville Fire Deparment. March 11, 2014 was Chief Cust's last official duty as Morinville's Fire Chief. Mayor Holmes thanked Fire Chief Ron Cust for his service to Morinville and residents. Brad Boddez has been appointed as the Acting Fire Chief.

Bantam Morinville Orijen Sabretooths

On February 25, 2014 the Morinville Town Council presented the Bantam Morinville Orijen Sabretooths with a certificate recognizing their undefeated season with 15-0 record. Serge Froment, along with 4 coaches and the team were all present to accept the certificate. Council was presented with t-shirts from some of the team members.

Morinville Kings - North Central Hockey League

 

On February 25, 2014 the Morinville Town Council presented the Morinville Kings with a certificate recognizing their 2nd place finish in their inaugural year in the North Central Hockey League. Coach Wayne Gatza, along with five team members were in attendance to accept the certificate.

Tristan Turner - Top 30 Under 30 Award Winner

On January 14, 2014, the Morinville Town Council presented Tristan Turner with a certificate acknowledging his receipt of a Top 30 Under 30 award through the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation. Mr. Turner has been an active member of the New Democratic Youth of Alberta since age 14. He writes a regular column for The Morinville News and co-founded the Morinville Interact (Youth Rotary) Club.

Cst. Yelena Avoine Recognized

Council recognized Cst. Yelena Avoine for her years of service with Morinville RCMP Detachment and to residents of Morinville. Cst. Avoine was an important figure in starting the Citizens Academy which she will continue in St. Albert with their Youth Academy. Cst. Avoine was presented with tickets to the Morinville Community Cultural Centre for an upcoming performance.

Zach Froment - Baseball Alberta Player of the Year

Council recognized Zach Froment for receiving the 2013 Baseball Alberta's Triple A Pee Wee Player of the Year award. Zach is a pitcher and travelled across Alberta to play.
